Now that the May 2010 Elections have passed (well, sort of) it remains to be seen what is in store for Filipinos and the businesses scattered over the metropolis. Sure we have a new president but he is still untested. Stability as far as security and if the activists will now be at ease with the new administration has not been settled and until the new president (Benigno Aquino III) takes office, it may not be the best place to visit right now.

For one, the vice presidency has been far from settled. Sen. Manuel Roxas and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay are still slugging it out with the latter leading by about 800,000 votes or so. The new senators have been proclaimed and if you sum it all up, the overall governance of the Philippines still remains questionable.

Add to that political bickering within the ranks which include the naming of Renato Corona as the new Chief Justice which has drawn a howl of protests can only mean that Manila is not at all safe nor secure. Not to discourage touriststs or balikbayans, it would be best to wait until the smoke clears and see if the Philippines had indeed chosen wisely on their new leaders. For the meantime, save your travel itineraries for at least a couple of months more.

Once again we devote ourselves to mother Earth and connect with Nature. On March 297th, 2010,we all need to cooperate and turn off our lights for an hour for another Earth Hour. So mark your calendar and celebrate with billions of people around the globe for another Earth Hour. . When the clock strikes 8:30PM, the world will once more be engulfed in darkness – and a Billion people will celebrate the biggest party in recorded history.

According to Earth Hour’s Website, the last earth hour inspired millions of Filipinos to devote themselves an hour of Earth hour.

“Earth Hour 2009 inspired over 10 Million Filipinos in 647 cities and municipalities to switch off, saving an estimated 611MWh of electricity – equivalent to shutting down a dozen coal-fired power-plants for an hour. Earth Hour Philippines is a yearly effort of WWF-Philippines, the Department of Energy (DoE), Green Army Network and SWITCH Movement. 2010 partners include Ipanema, Century Tuna, Sustagen, Philips, Motolite, Meralco, SM Malls, Ayala Malls, Bonifacio Global City, GMA-7, ABS-CBN, Infinit-1 Communications, ECC International, Dig It All, Friendster and Discovery Channel.”

Its really nice to hear that more and more people are trying to help the environment. It is important to be well informed that mother nature is slowling suffering, because in the end we will all still suffer.

Sunday yesterday a report has been announced that a tsunami will hit the Philippines in different regions due to the massive earthquake at Chile. Hundreds of people hoped that no tsunami will happen in the country. It was announced that the said tsunami will hit the Philippines at 1-2.:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“The estimated arrival time of the first tsunami waves is between 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM (Philippine Time) on 28 February 2010 (Sunday afternoon),” the Phivolcs said in its 11:30 pm bulletin posted on Saturday.

Dr. Renato Solidum, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), told radio dzMM early Sunday that alert level 1 was still up over the eastern coast of the Philippines.

He said Phivolcs is not yet recommending an evacuation of eastern coastal communities since they have not yet established how high the tsunamis will be.

As of posting time, he said the tsunamis that have hit some parts of Chile were only 1 to 2 meters high.

Although a lot have been on alert, The Phivolcs director informed the public that is standard operating procedure that when there’s a big earthquake that could bring tsunami to us, they issue Alert Level 1 to advise the public. They only order evacuation when we raise Alert Level No. 3.

Through prayers and miracles we do hope that no said tsunami will hit our country.

This new ruling follows after a spate of reports from citizens about private vehicles taking up space and making public roads their parking space.

This new ruling is actually an ordinance passed in Congress by Rep. Narciso D. Santiago III who says, “Streets become overnight parking lots as both sides are crammed with private vehicles. People should be disciplined enough to be able to furnish their vehicles with the appropriate parking space inside their own lots.” [Read Press Release here.]

It is up to the LTO to make sure that this is properly implemented.

But residents of the Philippines, what’s your take on this?

Are you tired of looking at papers on your desk? Or maybe listening to your boss whine about the company’s problem? You start to imagine places where you can relax and unwind. You desire to be in a place where peace and tranquility can be felt? Its time to visit Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte Philippines. Among the many places I’ve wanted to visit is my mother’s hometown in Davao. around an hour in Davao, you will see the island Garden city of Samal.

One of the resorts I will surely recommend is rocky beach Resort. Samal Island has several beaches, but the most popular beaches flock with many tourists during peak season, which is around March to May. That’s why most people think Samal is not the perfect spot for romantic summer.

To avoid the overcrowded beach resorts, the role of Rocky Beach Resort comes into play. The name Rocky Beach was coined by the sons of the beach owner. When they first set foot at Rocky Beach many years ago, it had boulders of corals. As of now, Rocky Beach Resort isn’t that rocky as it used to be.

Island Garden City of Samal have numerous of wonderful and extraordinary resorts. Some of the resorts are Kaputain Resort, Cannibad ,Chemas , Camudmud, Costa Marina , Blue Waters , Mayumi, Isla Reta and Paradise Island

Getting to Know More About the Island Garden City of Samal - The Island Garden City of Samal is just minutes away from Davao, a city with a large economic base.
Davao. Home of the Durian, and the birthplace of my mother. I am very intrigued with the culture, beliefs and their highlights. According to my mom she is fascinated by how discipline the people is in Davao. She also boast about their richness in fruits and peaceful scenery.

Davao, comparing sizes by land area, is the largest city in the Philippines and in the island of Mindanao. It has one of the most progressive economies in the country with its seaport and international airport being very active cargo hubs in the region. In the whole southern Philippines, Davao City remains as a strong business and investment center.

Some of the historic sites in Davao City include the Battle Memorial, a historical marker memorializing the longest battle between the Japanese and Filipino-American forces during World War II. Another place to visit is the Davao Historical Society Museum, which features its historic collections, located in Magsaysay Park. The Uyanguren Landing Site marks the area where the Spanish conqueror, which name it bears, first landed. He later became Davao’s first governor.

But if you also want panoramic views and a relaxing place at the beach, the n I recommend visiting the pearl Farm. Pearl Farm Beach Resort is located at Samal, an island off the coast of Davao City. Pearl Farm is a 45-minute boat ride from Davao City Wharf. The resort was once a pearl farm where thousands of white-lipped oysters were imported from Sulu and were cultivated for white, pink and gold pearls.

Pear Farm’s unique cottages were patterned from the traditional houses of the Samal Tribe in Sulu. The resort offers five different choices of cottages/villas; Balay House ($115), Samal House ($210), Mandaya House ($240), Samal Suite ($350) and Sunset Suite ($350).

So much for that, Davao also happens to be one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Visit Davao and be entangled with its delicious durian.

The last time I visited the amazing island of Siargao was summer of 2009. The weather was just fine for a 7 day travel at the surfing capital of the country. Siargao which is famous for its avid surfers and huge waves kept me from wanting to visit the island again.

Surigao del Norte is a mosaic island in the northeastern tip of Mindanao. Siargao Island has managed to preserve its natural marvel through the years.
On the eastern side of the province is Siargao Island, a tropical jewel that hosts one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and home of wave surfing, the latest sport and tourist attraction to take the country by storm.

Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island situated 800 kilometers southeast of Manila. It has a land mass of approximately 437 kilometers. Upon reaching Siargao, you can already see the view from the plane on how the waves crush through the island. The east coast is relatively straight with one deep inlet-Port Pilar with a coastline marked by a succession of reefs, small points and white sandy beaches. The reefs and points are excellent for picking up any swell that comes along turning into clean, fast waves.

The best known surfing break now with a world reputation of being in the top Surfing Waves in the world is nick-named “Cloud Nine”. The area is also where the surfing competitions are held. It is usually during the months of September when the waves are on its peak. There are also several places to stay at Siargao where you can enjoy since its near the beach at General Luna.

Surely Siargao is one of the places you need to visit during your stay in the country.

The breathtaking view of Batanes is simply as beautiful as tasting the air of Philippines. Batanes is composed of ten islands which are situated between the vast expanse of the waters of Bashi Channel and Balintang Channel, where the Pacific Ocean, merges with the China Sea.The Island is rich with marine resources with includes the rarest sea corals in the world.

More than half of the Ivatans are farmers and fishermens. Some of the locals are employed in the government and services sector like the local government and the public schools. Ivatans also plant vegetables for their food like camote (sweet potato), cassava, gabi or tuber and a unique variety of white uvi. Crime is not even part of their vocabulary, In fact the provincial jail has been useless for several years now.

Batanes capital city is Basco and is a reference point each time a typhoon enters Philippines. Breathtaking Batanes is the Philippines smalles province both in terms of population and land area, It is hilly and mountainous with only 1,631.50 hectares or 7.10% of its area level to undulating and 78.20% or 17,994.40 hectares varying in terms from rolling to steep and very steep.

There are so several things to be done at Batanes that cannot be achieving with just one day. Enjoy lounging and breathing the Marloboro hills at Batanes or simply let the waves take you at Valugan Beach.

The island is also has a lighthouse which is spectacular during dusk. The island is also one way of soothing your stress away from the nightclubs, works and hectic schedules. The island will permit you to reflect and witness never ending panoramic views.

After the long wait, Robinson Dumaguete has finally opened its wall to the public. It has a wide area of different stores, tianges, restaurant, entertainment and more. The Roninsons Land has been planning for their operation for quite some time, and released the opening will be midyear of 2009. I’m really excited to visit Dumaguete again and see the wonders of the different version of Robinsons.

This two-level shopping mall development is centrally located along Dumaguete South Road, a busy intersection where commercial establishments are presently proliferating. Schools, public transport terminals, call centers among others are situated nearby, while travel time is a five to 10 minute drive from popular city landmarks Rizal Boulevard, Silliman University, St. Paul’s University, the Provincial Hospital to mention a few.

Local retailers as well as popular store chain operators are expected to open alongside Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Supermarket, Handyman Do It Center, Robinsons Appliances, Toys R Us, and Robinsons Movie world. Robinsons Dumaguete, Robinsons Malls’ 20th shopping mall, will also have an al fresco dining area, a kids’ section, health and beauty outlets, service and IT outlets, a drug store, quick serve restaurants, and a bookstore.

There’s actually so much to do in Robinsons Dumaguete since its quite huge compared to the Robinsons in Cebu. Robinson is also entertaining queries for the project, or those who are interested in putting up a store in the mall.

Interested parties can call 683-6100, locals 179, and 816 or (034) 441-1842. For further information, log on to Robinsons Land Corporation Official Website for more information.

For a 3 hour drive from Cebu City is a small town in the Province of South named Oslob. It is rich with white sandy beaches, old churches and heartwarming locals. Upon reaching Oslob you’ll get to see an island across Oslob. The island is Sumilon Island. It can be reached through boat transfer.

Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort is located on tranquil Sumilon Island. The Island remains as one of Cebu’s best kept secrets and is found on the southeastern tip of the mainland. It is 125 kilometers from Cebu City and is in close proximity to Dumaguete. The island has an area of 24 hectares and is surrounded by crystal clear waters with varying aquamarine hues. It is the first marine protected area in the Philippines and was made a fish sanctuary in 1974 under the guidance of Siliman University Marine Reserve. During dives, one will find varied marine species and even occasional sightings of black tip sharks. Pristine white sand beaches are situated in different areas in Sumilon.

The island can be enjoyed through snorkeling, bird watching, cave tours and romantic picknick beaches. You can bring your family down there or your special someone to lounge at the island. The island also has its own restaurant wherein you can enjoy fresh sea foods. Usually the south is covered with sparkling stars at night, so you might enjoy watching the stars together with your friends, family and love ones.
