Panganan Island

Three years ago my family and I visited an island full of surprises. Everything in the place was surreal. Corals, fishes, and dolphins were spotted in this island. Just an hour from Cebu Mactan is a small island covered with birds, exotic fishes, shells, and more. The island is called Pangan-an. Tourist are also advised try out snorkeling. Snorkeling allows tourist and locals to enjoy the bountiful marine life. There are several island nearby where you spend your time with your family eating lunch and dinner.
One of islands usually recommended by boat operators and locals for tour destinations, Pangan-an in Lapu-Lapu City boasts of white sand and clean and clear seas.
Water around the island is shallow so big boats like yachts can only anchor a few meters away from the shore, but snorkeling is possible at this deeper part since this is where fishes congregate.
Small outrigger boats can dock at certain areas of the island, for those who wish to explore it or sunbathe at its white sand beach.
You can also dive to a depth of 50 members at the eastern part of Pangan-an. KI Marine Sports Center offers diving services in the area.

Pangan-an is three nautical miles from Mactan island and is south of the smaller island of Olango. It is an hour and 30 minutes from Barangay Maribago in Mactan. Locals say that when it is low tide, a sand bar connecting Pangan-an to Olango appears and it becomes possible to walk between the islands.
Pangan-an island has a household population of 302 as of the 2000 census. Most of the people living on the island are fishermen.
The island has electricity courtesy of the Pangan-an Island Solar Electrification Project. Its photovoltaic mini-grid system gets electricity from around 500 solar panels that trap light energy and turn it into 90 kilowatts of power available daily.
The refreshing breeze would surely keep your mind at peace and your family entertained through the holidays. Enjoy more and sun and snorkeling at Pangan-an.

Cebu Guitars

nggshow.php

Learning to play the guitar was one of my goals back in my senior years. I just loved the idea of being able to play and be in one with the guitar. I took lesson and learned them by heart. Guitars have always been useful in entertainment, gatherings and other events. Here in the Philippines, Cebu is one of the famous creators of guitar. They create durable and tune loving guitars. Guitars in Cebu are mostly found in Mactan. If you visit Mactan, you can see a lot of stalls and shops that produces guitars.

The province of Cebu has long been known for its production of locally handmade acoustic guitars, bandurrias (Filipino mandolins), banjos and ukuleles. Cebu’s guitar makers are considered to be among the world’s finest craftsmen, making their produce one of the most sought-after kinds around the globe. Exactly just why? Well, every guitar is a product of a month’s worth of hard work and sacrifice, making perfection the only thing acceptable. One craftsman is responsible for the entire production process of a guitar, such a meticulous production process is the best guarantee for the utmost perfection and quality of the guitars.

In Mactan Island, the center of Cebu’s guitar-making industry, the craft of guitar-making is passed from generation to generation and the industry involves many families, the most prominent of whom is the Malingin family and the three sisters, Lilang, Susing, and Celia, whose names have become well-known “brand names” of Mactan guitars. Local guitars are typically made of various kinds of soft and hard woods, from nangka (jackfruit) to the more prized naga (narra) and kamagong (ebony). These may come attractively decorated or inlaid with shell.

Sutukil at Mactan

I onced lived my wat at Lapu Lapu City in Cebu. That happened when I forced my parents to allow me to live independently and find a job. I was based at Lapu Lapu and it has the finest beach resorts, work stations, restaurants and more. Lapu Lapu is quite a busy city and it has touched my heart in terms of peole, food and beach. Last time, my friends and I went to Sutukil. Its actually famous if your from the Philippines. All the delightful seafoods can bee found in one place.

tukil restaurants let you choose whatever you want cooked from stalls of fresh fish, prawns, crabs, seaweeds, shells, clams and even lobsters  These seafood are as fresh as seafood can be and the crabs and lobsters on display are still alive as you pick which ones you want cooked. Sutukil eateries get their daily supply of fresh seafood from fishers in nearby islets.
Many people love to eat in the place and it’s packed on weekends, especially during mealtimes. When we got there last Thursday, however, we were the only customers in the eatery we chose as it was mid-afternoon on a weekday.

We chose a local fish, molmol, because its white meat is great for kinilaw. The woman who sold us the fish did not bother asking us how we want it prepared. When I asked her how it would be cooked, she simply said sutukil. Everyone who eats fish in the place get this triadic culinary treat: sugba, tula and kilaw.

Try out the yummy foods and the breeze of fresh air only at Cebu.
