One of the places I’m going to visit in the future is Bantayan.. Although it might not be the best time to go there .because certain thunderstorms have been passing around the country. I made some research and learned a lot about how to have a beautiful vacation only in Cebu, Bantayan.

Bantayan is a 2nd class municipality on Bantayan Island in the province of Cebu, Philippines.

It is the island’s more populous town, with a population of 71,655 people according to the 2007 census. It is bordered at the north by Madridejos and at the southeast by Santa Fe.

Bantayan Islands is geographically in the center of the Philippines. It is located at the northwestern side of Cebu and northeastern of Negros Oriental. It is a town of Cebu and is about 80 miles from Cebu City. The main Bantayan Island is about 7 miles wide by 10 miles long. About 20 of its islets stretch for another 5 miles long with some being accessible by foot from the main island at low tide. Mostly all the ships or ferryboats coming from Mindanao or south of Cebu have to pass by Bantayan Islands on its way to Manila. The Bantayan dialect is a mixture of native Cebuano, Ilongo (Negros), Waray (Samar), Masbateño, and Boholano, but it has words it can call its own such as “kakyop, sara, kag buwas“ (yesterday, today, and tomorrow).

Bantayan Islands is considered as Cebu’s fishing ground where shiploads and boatloads of fish are transported daily to Cebu City and Negros. Tons of guinamos (salted fish) and buwad (dried fish) are delivered to Cebu City and Cadiz, Negros for further distribution to as far as Mindanao and Manila. Equally important is the thriving poultry industry with hundreds of thousands of chicken eggs produced daily.

There a lot of resorts in Bantayan where you can stay overnight for as low as P 1600. If your from Cebu all you need to do is ride a bus going to Hagnaya for about 2-3 hours. After reaching Hagnaya, there is fast craft going to Bantayan which will probably cost you around 150 pesos. Finding your resort would be your choice, but I’m pretty sure everything there is beautiful and captivating.

Going South At Cebu

I have lived my entire life in the Philippines. I am currently situated South of Cebu. Actually my hometown could over you one with powdery sand beach, exclusive parties and so much more. Last summer I went with my friends to stay at Boljoon, Cebu for 3 days. Little did I discover about the wonders of Cebu.

boljoon

Boljoon (also spelled Boljo-on) is a 5th class municipality in the province of  Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 14,877 people.
Boljoon has a total land area of 111.2 km². (11,500 hectares). It is bounded by Alcoy in the north, Oslob in the south, Malabuyoc in the west, and Bohol Strait in the east.

Boljoon could offer your white beaches and has private resorts if you really want to shut down yourself from the world. Last summer we visited the Boljoon which in history,is the oldest remaining original stone church in Cebu.

The first buildings were probably ruined during the Muslim raid of 1782 that destroyed almost all the entire town. Fr. Ambrosio Otero started the reconstruction of the new church in 1783 and Fr. Julian Bermejo finished the church and had a stone fence built to enclose the convent and the church as an added protective measure. In 1880 an old organ was installed and to this day, the organ is still at the choir loft, although it is in danger of getting worn out.

The style of the church is pseudo-baroque-rococo and is the same style and pattern with the churches in Argao and Dalaguete with the exception of some Rococo decorations on the panels and along shallow pillars.

Aside from that, you could also enjoy riding in “bangka” which are driven by fisherman’s. All you need to is pay 50 pesos and you get about and hour or more around the waters of Boljoon. Cebu has so much to offer and not only is there Boljoon, but there are still hidden wonders situated in our mainland.

Goodyear Philippines Tire Plant Shutting Down

Goodyear LogoHere is a big blow once again for the faltering economy of the Philippines. Goodyear, one of the well-known tire manufacturers in the world today has announced that their Philippines-based plant is shutting down due to uncompetitive manufacturing capacity globally.

The action, which is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter, will result in a reduction of approximately 500 of the company’s 600 associates in the Philippines. The company’s sales and marketing operations in the country are not affected.

The closure of the plant in Las Pinas will result in the reduction of nearly two million units of annual production capacity, which is part of Goodyear’s strategy to remove 15 million to 25 million units of capacity over the next two years. Production will be transferred to lower-cost plants in the company’s Asia-Pacific Region.

“Due to high costs compared to other plants in the region, tires produced in the Las Pinas plant are not competitive in the marketplace,” said Pierre E. Cohade, president of Goodyear’s Asia-Pacific Region.

“Goodyear is committed to its business in the Philippines as well as continuous product innovation, and intends to maintain its market leadership through aggressive marketing, excellent customer service and superior products,” Cohade said. “This action will, in no way, disrupt our service to wholesale, retail and original equipment customers.”

Goodyear, which has had a presence in the Philippines since 1919, opened the Las Pinas plant in 1956.

The company plans to record approximately $20 million in charges associated with the closure in the third quarter of 2009, principally for non-cash asset write offs.

Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies. It employs approximately 71,000 people and manufactures its products in more than 60 facilities in 25 countries around the world.
