These stores are our version of the Salvation Army. The items sold here are mostly used and they range from anything including handkerchief and toys. If you really have the patience to go through the racks and piles, you may just find an authentic brand of designer clothes or bag for the lowest price ever.

If you don’t have a skyrocket budget, the ukay ukay should be the best place to go if you’re looking for something fashionable and trendy. Prices of items usually range from P10 to P400. Sometimes, there are special deals, like buying three blouses for P50.00.

In Manila, the best ukay places to go to are located in the following areas:

Blumentritt cor Rizal Ave near the Mercury Drug

Kamuning Area, beside the Chowking fast food chain

Araneta Center in Cubao, at the Quezon Theater Bldg.

JP Rizal Makati Ave in the Lucky Star Bldg.

Marcos Hi-way in Marikina Marikina City

Cainta Junction in Cainta, Rizal

At the back of the POEA Bldg in Ortigas.

Ukay stores also abound in Davao City along Ponciano St. Uyanguren St and at the Bankerohan Market. There, rows and rows of stores sell very good condition clothes for P10 to P120 only. Never anything above that.

In Cebu City, you can find Ukay stores in Colon St, at the Carbon District as well as in Tabunok, Talisay City.

Mind you, even affluent Filipinos who can afford to pay brand new scour the thrift stores to get the best deals.

It has a very humid but windy atmosphere which is very relaxing. Park Mall like its name has a huge space for parking area. There are also certain events held at Park Mall. One entertainment is the waterball challenge. Childrends and even adults are sealed in a plastic ball to roll around the pool. Its very entertaining and cost only P75.00.

Park Mall is located at Ouano Avenue, Mandaue Reclamation Area, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines(across Cebu International Convention Center – CICC). Uniting Cebuano’s love for culture, search for pleasure and need for leisure comes to Parkmall, the newest cosmo hub in Mandaue, home to the finest of al fresco dining and the most refreshing concept shops to ever grace the Queen City of the South.

Experience something new and exciting everyday at Parkmall. There are so many restuarant to enyoy at Parkmall. There is also a field where families can just lie around the grass to enjoy the view and the wind. Visit Parkmall and enjoy this sights.

My ancestors are descended from Bohol and during the war they transferred to Cebu. In Car Car to be exact. I have always liked Car Car, and my childhood memories always remind me of how peaceful and beautiful it is. There are a number of things that can be done upon reaching Car Car. Lately, a new small resort has been added to please tourist and locals alike. There are also shoe makers in Car Car that are very devoted in promoting Filipino products.

Carcar is a municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 100,632 people.

In 2005, Metro Cebu’s definition was expanded to include Danao City in the north and the municipality of San Fernando and the city of Carcar down south.

Carcar became a city on July 7, 2007. On November 19, 2008, The City of Carcar was demoted along with 2 other cities in Cebu and 13 other cities in the Philippines. The Supreme Court ruled that the 16 cities did not pass the requirements for cityhood.

My Cebu Photo Blog’s testimonial

“ CARCAR is a municipality-recently-turned-city-then-turned-municipality about 60kms South of Cebu. Carcar is a booming district during the Spanish era which explains why its streets are filled with Spanish Architecture. Carcar is known for sweets like Bucarillo and tasty snacks like Ampao and Chicharon. Carcar is also known as the Shoe Capital of Cebu.”

Car Car offers different delicacies and one of my favorites are chicahron and Bucarillo. They are sold near the Jolibee Car Car. This are one of the things I will never forget about my second hometown. And lastly, Car Car made the largest shoe that was placed in the Guinness Book of Records.

When you travel, you would always want to have the best time at a good price. One of the things I’m totally addicted is going to the beach on my free time. Just up North in Cebu is an island filled with so much pleasure and white beaches. You might even find the best diving spots at Malapascua. Malapascua is found in Cebu. In order to get there, you need to ride a pump boat from Daan Bantayan. It has long stretches of white sands and great diving spot. You might even catch sharks lurking around the corner if you go diving.

Malapascua Island is situated in the Visayan Sea, located across a shallow strait from the northernmost tip of Cebu Island. Administratively, it is part of the insular barangay of Logon, Daanbantayan Municipality, Cebu Province, the Philippines. Malapascua is a tiny island, only about 2.5 kilometers long and 1 km wide, and has eight hamlets..

As a diving destination, Malapascua was “discovered” fairly recently, only in the early 90s. The island was first known for its wide white sand beach, known as Bounty Beach; it has also become known for its beautiful coral gardens and excellent dive spots nearby, including Monad Shoal, an underwater plateau where thresher sharks and manta rays can be sighted on a regular basis.

Most of the islanders derive their livelihood from tourism, while some still rely on subsistence fishing and farming.

The name Malapascua means ‘Bad Christmas’ in Cebuano. Legend has it that it was so named because the Spanish first landed here one stormy Christmas Day in the 1500’s. There is some debate about the name however because although ‘mal’ definitely means ‘bad’, ‘pasco’ means Christmas in the local language of Cebuano but “pascua” in Spanish means Easter. So perhaps it was a stormy Easter after all.

Today, Malapascua is a beautiful, sleepy island, as yet unspoiled by tourism with white sandy beaches, lush green palm trees and surrounded by clear blue waters.

Other than Sinulog and its color events, the Cebuanos are very religious and provides enormous time to visit the Sto. Nino. It is a very old Church located just across the Cebu City Hall. The church is so much filled with tourists, locals and residents nearby everyday to visit the saint. Others visit the place to light candles and offer prayers. Weeks before the Sinulog, the church is jam packed with so many people and it once again relieves the Christian in us.

Foundation of the Church

The convent of the Sto. Niño de Cebu was founded by Fr. Andres de Urdaneta on April 28, 1565 , the very day the Legazpi-Urdaneta expedition arrived in the island. On May 8 of the same year, when Legaspi and his men planned the urbanization of the city, they allotted a “place for the church and the convent of San Agustin, “where the Santo Niño image had been found.”

In 1599, the convent was made a house of studies of grammar, headed by the Visayan linguist, Fr. Alonso de Mentrida. It also served as a rest house for missionaries working in the province and as a retirement home for the aged and the sick, usually attended to by a lay brother.

The church has always been the Sanctuary of the Sto. Niño, under the custody of the Augustinians. The number of priests assigned to the church varied from three to five aside from one or two lay brothers.

Devotion to Sto. Niño

The Chapter held on August 6, 1578 recommended to all the fathers “that prayers to the Sto. Niño be offered every month as was the custom before.” In 1641, the father provincial ordered that the feast of the Sto Niño be celebrated on January 14 “with all the possible solemnity, mass and sermon, since He deserves all the affection from us, being the Dulcisimo and most affectionate patron of our province.”

Fr. Nicolas de la Cuadra (1731) was very instrumental in spreading the devotion of the Sto. Niño. He led an exemplary life, had writings and solemn rites which he established in the sanctuary, and acquired many jewels for the decoration of the statue.

People often go to parties to socialize and enjoy the benefits of alcohol and most of all have an enjoyable night. Several clubs around the metropolitan of Cebu are up for a perky night and a rocking crowd. One of the most sought club is Club Vudu. Even the artists at Manila come by at night to party down till dawn.

Reshaping and Setting the Pace of the Cebu Scene since 2001.

On its 8th year in the business, VUDU continues to break grounds in Cebu’s night scene. With its constantly evolving, inventive and cutting-edge concept, VUDU is setting the pace of what once was a relatively languid Cebu nightlife.

VUDU was designed and determined to be different, and it’s getting the attention it deserves, as a local landmark (being associated to anything Cebu in the same breath as the Guadalupe mangoes, locally made guitars, or tourist sports like the Magellan’s Cross, the Lapu-Lapu Shrine, the Taoist Temple, or the new Mandaue-Mactan Bridge), from domestic and foreign visitors. Even avid partyphiles from all over continue to rhapsodize about their VUDU experience, which makes VUDU a certified party destination.

Being the preeminent and most dominant nightspot in Cebu, and perhaps in the whole of Visayas and Mindanao, VUDU is set to usher in a new age in lounging and partying on this corner of the world.

Several things to remember in visiting Vudu.

VUDU WEEKLY EVENTS

WEEKDAY EVENTS:

VUDUeoke Tuesdays
(n.) The freedom to sing like no one’s listening; The much talked about and anticipated weekly VUDUphiles and VUDU faithful’s Tuesday habit;

(v.) To sing your heart out without a care in the world usually with a bottle of ice cold beer or GPS on one hand for some liquid courage.

Tuesdays only. A definite, absolute, must-do. Doors open 6 p.m. for early (song)birds.

No door fee. No dress code.

There are also some days which are ladies and night and if you follow the dress codes and color, you could get in for free. Visit Cebu, unwind and have fun at the hippest locations only in Cebu.

The barrio center of Matutinao is located south of the Badian town center. Matutinao is a coastal area, with mountain ranges a few hundred meters from the shore. This barrio is famous for its series of waterfalls named Kawasan. The chain of waterfalls has several cottages and restaurants. Hundreds of tourists flock to this area the whole year round. Main livelihood for the locals are small scale business, fishing and farming.

Kawasan Falls is a popular getaway destination in the southern part of Cebu. When you get to Badian Town, you’ll have to walk 15 to 30 minutes or less along a very rocky and narrow path. But even though you might stumble a bit, just take it easy and enjoy the trek going up. There’s a beautiful river and all different kinds of tropical plants. It’s not everyday you’ll have a beautiful view like this. You’ll have to cross 3 small bridges before reaching the falls. Try to stop at this moment and look upstream.Your camera can’t wait to take some shots of the background and give you a forever lasting picture of what paradise is. Several testimonials were made at http://kawasanfalls.blogspot.com/

Kawasan has three waterfalls. The first one is the largest and is usually the most crowded. You can bring some food. But If you want to just relax you don’t have to bring in food since it’s available from the resort’s restaurants.Cottage and tables are also available for rent. You should rent a bamboo raft to take you around the lake, or for a refreshing “waterfall massage” under the falling water. You have the opportunity to climb up beside the waterfall and jump into the water, just like Tarzan.

Plantation Bay a five star hotel and resort in Cebu is truly amazing. Aside from its classy interiors ad inviting pools, it is also eco conscious.

Plantation Bay provides free school bus service in the community, making it possible for hundreds of local children (who could not afford public transportation) to obtain a basic education. On a continuing basis, we support a number of local residents for vocational training. In 2004 Plantation Bay paid for the reforestation of about 120 hectares in Cebu’s highlands, and provided most of the funding to build and operate a day-care center for indigent families in South Cebu City.

The employees of Plantation Bay enjoy good salaries and benefits. Equally important, all staff members are treated with dignity and respect as part of the Plantation Bay Family. Training and career-advancement opportunities are provided to all staff members. A flattened and informal hierarchy system improves work performance and efficiency while providing a personal sense of satisfaction to every staff member. For these reasons, Plantation Bay is considered one of the best workplaces in the country. Guests quickly notice and appreciate our staff’s excellent morale and eagerness to please.

Our lovely artificial lagoon was built over a site consisting of barren rock, so no ecosystem was destroyed for the resort. To create fabulous white-sand beaches bordering the lagoon, mountain stone was quarried and crushed into fine grains. (A bonus is that, unlike real beach sand, ours is always cool to the touch, even under direct sun.) Thus, no natural beaches or sandbars were despoiled. The fine woods used in some furniture were recycled from old houses or church timbers. The wood ceilings seen in the lobby and many bedrooms and meeting rooms are actually made of ordinary plywood, painstakingly hand-stained to simulate the look of mahogany panels.

Extensive use was made of coconut timber, a widely-available renewable resource. Other coconut parts of little commercial value were used in decorations and finishes around the resort. The use of plastics was avoided wherever possible, a feature which also lessens fire and smoke hazards.

The resort simply makes heaven so much closer. It has well furnished and comfy rooms and the pools are one of the highlights. The resort also has a spa which is very relaxing.

The spa’s setting is uniquely charming, designed to resemble an 18th century Tokugawa Japanese village with its own thundering waterfalls, creek, and fog-like mist. Open your skin’s pores and float away your cares in a soothing hot spring; rejuvenate your body in a stimulating mineral bath; and enjoy a vigorous hydro-massage in the main waterfall basin.

Visit Cebu and always remember this beautiful location by the beach.
