Learning to play the guitar was one of my goals back in my senior years. I just loved the idea of being able to play and be in one with the guitar. I took lesson and learned them by heart. Guitars have always been useful in entertainment, gatherings and other events. Here in the Philippines, Cebu is one of the famous creators of guitar. They create durable and tune loving guitars. Guitars in Cebu are mostly found in Mactan. If you visit Mactan, you can see a lot of stalls and shops that produces guitars.

The province of Cebu has long been known for its production of locally handmade acoustic guitars, bandurrias (Filipino mandolins), banjos and ukuleles. Cebu’s guitar makers are considered to be among the world’s finest craftsmen, making their produce one of the most sought-after kinds around the globe. Exactly just why? Well, every guitar is a product of a month’s worth of hard work and sacrifice, making perfection the only thing acceptable. One craftsman is responsible for the entire production process of a guitar, such a meticulous production process is the best guarantee for the utmost perfection and quality of the guitars.

In Mactan Island, the center of Cebu’s guitar-making industry, the craft of guitar-making is passed from generation to generation and the industry involves many families, the most prominent of whom is the Malingin family and the three sisters, Lilang, Susing, and Celia, whose names have become well-known “brand names” of Mactan guitars. Local guitars are typically made of various kinds of soft and hard woods, from nangka (jackfruit) to the more prized naga (narra) and kamagong (ebony). These may come attractively decorated or inlaid with shell.
